This tour is
on of the most popular among cyclists. Also suited for motorcycling,
or for a leisure trip in car. The main attraction is the
stretch between Bunyola, Orient and onwards. Our trip started in
Sta. Maria, in the centre of town. Leaving Sta Maria it is flat
country and a easy drive to Bunyola. Just follow the road signs.
Here a stop can be made and sit in the sun on the church square,
where tables and chairs are ready. If time permits then Bunyola is
an interesting small village to have a look at. It was founded about
1000 years ago, during Arab rulers . Sta. Maria to Bunyola is 9 Km.
From here a narrow road is winding up the mountain towards Orient.
You need to climb 300 meters, over 8 Km.
There is plenty to look at under way. You are passing some of the
most charming landscapes of Mallorca. Bunyola to Orient is 10 Km.
In Orient, a
church and 20 houses, there is a chance to have a rest again. Then
the trip continues towards Alaro. To the left you see the large
Finca, Sollerich. To the right you have the high cliffs of Alaro
Castle. Shortly before Alaro the road is dividing, and your fellow
cyclists will head in all directions. We however passed through the
small town of Alaro, and after having a break on the church square
in the sun, we took the road back to Sta. Maria. Orient to Alaro is
10 Km. Alaro to Sta. Maria is 7 Km.
