The
history of Menorca tells
of Roman, and later Muslim
dominance. From the 13th century, Christian kings
ruled the island. In the 16th century, pirate attacks
were frequent and almost left the island deserted. The
English controlled the island for 100 years in the
18th century, and used it as a naval base. Today
tourism is the main source of income, together with
construction business.
