Also you do not
find a lot of residential apartments. This means
that traffic is greatly reduced. One area is called
"International camp". Close by you find the shopping
center Faro 2. The distance to the beach is about 2
kilometres. Some further inland you find the area
called "Sonnenland". The is bus service to the
beach, often free of charge, and it is easy to get a
taxi as well, and they are cheap.
Along the water front , near the light house is a
area with hotels, They are very impressive. Also
here is a large shopping centre and along the coast
is a promenade, with restaurants and shops. This
area is called Maspalomas Costa
And then
the beach. Stretching 3 kilometres along the coast,
further down joining the beach of Playa de Ingles.
The sand dunes of Maspalomas are famous for their
size, lying between the beach and the constructed
area. There is a golf course as well.
Maspalomas is a good place for the visitor who have
hired a car in the airport. You zoom down the
highway south. Turn off at junction 47, clearly
marked "Maspalomas". Hopefully you know already more
or less what part you are going to. There are many
round about's, so it is easy to change direction. If
you get lost, stop the car, hail a Taxi, show him
the address and a suitable Euro note. A 5'er should
be fine, else you are in the wrong town. He will
drive in front and guide you. Take a few bearings
first time you drive out from the Hotel, especially
if you are planning to be back after dark, else you
will need the taxi trick again. The good thing about
Maspalomas is that the roads are wide, plenty of
parking where you can stop and wipe off the sweat.
